WHAT IS CAFE CHURCH?
Café Church is church - but not as you might know or have experienced it!
Instead of a traditional service, this is a more relaxed and informal style of meeting together to worship God..
At Café Church we think about real life issues through discussion around the table, readings, music, poetry or maybe a short activity. There is always an element of surprise as you never quite know what to expect.
You will, however, notice something different as soon as you enter the building - the smell of freshly percolated coffee and maybe even warm scones! The tables will be set out with chairs grouped around them rather than being in rows. There will be plenty of time to chat with people at your table, music to listen to, poems, readings from the Bible, prayers and maybe songs to join in singing.
One thing we can guarantee is that you will be most welcome whether you are a church-goer or not.
Why not come and see for yourself?
At our Harvest Cafe Church we held the "Great Trinity Bake-Off". We talked about how life could become so much better if people shared resources and worked together. We heard about some of the work of Christian Aid and the positive effect team work was having on local communities.
We saw how this was true when talking about food. Each group was given a basket with 3 food items - eg. pasta, soup, canned fish - all taken from the donations given to Eastbourne Food Bank. The task was to create a Menu for a lunch to feed everyone at church that day. The result was that everyone would have something to eat but the meal would consist mainly of pasta, was plain and uninteresting.
The group was then set another task - to plan another menu but this time they were allowed free access to all the food items available together with anything used in the Harvest decorations - creativity set in and one group even created a three-course meal.
